Pia Johnston

Pia chasing a calfPia was born in the south west of Western Australia. Growing up on her family’s thoroughbred and Australian stockhorse stud, Pia’s passion for horses was evident from a very young age. She began campdrafting at the tender age of eight, later competing in her first open classes from age 12. With much success, Pia was on the road with solid foundations for what was to follow.

Now 23, Pia is a fully qualified and registered veterinarian. She has had experience in working with both companion animal and equine clinics. With her love for horses a job like this comes natural to her. However this is second to none with her passion and enthusiasm for campdrafting and schooling horses.

Pia has many accomplishments to date and is a well respected and admired campdrafter. Well known in her field, Pia has won in excess of 12 open age, including four open horse Campdrafts. She was also crowned 2007 SWWA Australian Campdraft Assoc. Open rider of the year. Pia has had much experience training horses and her interests extend to showing, campdrafting, breeding and veterinary work.

Pia and her Australian stockhorse mare, Taunton Vale Zinnia make a tremendous team. They were awarded Champion working, Champion ridden, and reserve champion hack at the 2008 Australian Stockhorse WA State Championships and it goes without saying that they also won the Open Invitation Campdraft to top off a wonderful performance.

Currently based in NSW, Pia is looking forward to the opportunities of furthering her training, competing and veterinary work on the East Coast.
